Nora Toutain

Originally from Morocco, Nora Toutain came to Canada to study science at McGill University-but music quickly took center stage. Driven by her passion, she immersed herself in Montreal’s vibrant collective Kalmunity, a creative hub focused on improvisation and the African diaspora. It was there that she found her artistic voice and built the musical family that supports her journey today. Inspired by artists like Malika Tirolien, Nora went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in jazz vocal performance from the University of Montreal.

Since then, she’s released three albums and produced several music videos, establishing herself as a unique voice on the international scene. Her third album, Better Days, was launched during the closing night of Visa For Music, where she performed in her hometown of Rabat. Following that, Nora toured internationally with dates in Belgium, France, and Morocco.

Her single Bad at Love was selected as one of the top 10 tracks in Canada’s CBC Searchlight contest, and she earned three jury’s choice awards at the Vision Diversité showcase.

In 2025, Nora performed for the second time at the Montreal Jazz Festival, this time on the main stage, marking a milestone in her growing career.

Blending african, arab and amazighs rhythms with soul, jazz, and pop, Nora creates a musical landscape that weaves tradition and modernity. Arrivée du Maroc pour étudier les sciences à McGill, Nora Toutain ne se doutait pas que sa vie prendrait un tout autre tournant.

Après avoir complété un diplôme en sciences, Nora plonge tête baissée dans la musique, sa passion première, portée par l’élan du collectif montréalais Kalmunity, un espace d’expression centré sur l’improvisation pour la diaspora africaine. C’est dans cette communauté qu’elle explore son expression artistique et tisse des liens qui deviendront sa famille musicale. Inspirée par des artistes comme Malika Tirolien, elle choisit de se professionnaliser en entamant un second baccalauréat en interprétation jazz (chant) à l’Université de Montréal.

Depuis, elle a sorti trois albums, réalisé une dizaine de vidéoclips, et entrepris sa première tournée internationale, avec des dates en Belgique, en France et au Maroc. Son 3ᵉ album Better Days voit le jour lors de la soirée de clôture de Visa For Music, où elle se produit dans sa ville natale, Rabat.

Son single Bad at Love a été sélectionné parmi les 10 meilleurs titres du concours CBC Searchlight (Canada), et sa performance à la vitrine Vision Diversité lui vaut trois prix coups de cœur du jury.

En 2025, elle renoue avec le Festival de Jazz de Montréal, cette fois sur la scène principale.

Chanteuse et compositrice née et ayant grandi au Maroc, de mère marocaine et de père français, Nora réalise une fusion inédite: des rythmes ancestraux africains et amazighs entremêlés à des sonorités soul, jazz et pop, qui apportent une modernité unique à son héritage multiculturel. Elle réussit avec finesse et authenticité à bâtir des ponts entre les genres et les disciplines artistiques.
